Minister Carol Jean Hicks, the youngest of three children born to the late Leroy and Estelle Hicks grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. She is the mother of one son, Brian, and considers it an honor, a blessing, and a privilege that God trusted her to raise him. Minister Hicks accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the age of eight years old and was baptized at St. John's Baptist Church, Pittsburgh, PA under the pastorate of the late Reverend John Queen, where she remained for five years. Her membership was then moved to Sixth Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Pittsburgh, PA under the pastorate of the late Rev. Dr. John Carl Hairiston, Sr. where she remained an active member until the age of seventeen.
Throughout her youth Minister Hicks actively participated in the life of her church and is grateful to God for the grounding she received in His word, and for every opportunity provided to develop oratorical skills and leadership abilities through recitation, Bible study, Baptist Training Union, Junior Missionary, and Sunday School. Many elders in the churches of her youth gave her their words of encouragement that have lasted a lifetime. Minister Hicks readily admits "my life is my testimony. Had it not been for God's grace and His mercy, I shudder to think where I would be. I left God's covering for many years because I thought being in the world was such fun. I am grateful that He kept me safe from harm and danger, and I am eternally
grateful that while I chose to put Him in the background of my life, He chose to keep me in the hollow of His hand". Recognizing the need and desire for God in her life on a consistent and regular basis, Minister Hicks joined St. Paul's Baptist Church, West Chester, PA in the fall of 1995. In 1999, Minister Hicks acknowledged her call to ministry and began study at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. In 2007 under the guidance and pastorate of Rev. Dr. Robert Scott Jones, Minister Hicks accepted her call to ministry and was licensed to preach the gospel October 11, 2007.
Currently at St. Paul's, Minister Hicks serves on the Ministerial Staff as an Associate Minister. She is a member of St. Paul's Inspirational Choir; Co-Chair of Women's Fellowship; Co-Chair of the Ministry of Christian Compassion; and teaches Bible Study and Sunday School upon request. Along with one of her sisters in ministry, Minister Hicks teaches a newly developed Bible Study class to the women at West
Chester's Guadenzia House, and she is working to join the Chester County Prison Ministry. Minister Hicks is a proud graduate of Lincoln University. She holds a Master of Social Work from Smith College and is currently concluding her doctoral studies in Clinical Social Work at Smith College. Her professional career has centered on social work with incarcerated adolescents; emotionally disturbed children; and family conflict resolution. She has been a social work educator for over twenty years. Life Verse: "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God; in Him will I
trust." Psalm 91:1-2
